Deposit Insurance
Deposit Insurance – How Your Money Is Protected
Safety is paramount when it comes to investing. Deposit insurance plays a central role in this – it ensures that your deposits are protected even in the event of a bank’s insolvency. At Festgeldrategeber, we take special care to ensure that your deposits enjoy the highest level of protection – both nationally and internationally.
What is Deposit Insurance?
Deposit insurance means that if a bank becomes insolvent, your deposits are legally protected up to a certain amount. This way, in a worst-case scenario, you won’t lose all your money – and confidence in the banking system is maintained.
Why is Deposit Insurance Important?
✔ Protection for your assets – Your deposits are secured up to the legally guaranteed amount.
✔ Confidence creates stability – A secure banking system strengthens the economy as a whole.
✔ No panic in a crisis – The insurance prevents many customers from withdrawing their money at the same time (a so-called bank run).
Deposit Insurance in Germany
In Germany, there are two protection mechanisms:
🔹 Statutory: Up to €100,000 per customer and bank, through the Compensation Scheme of German Banks (Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken – EdB).
🔹 Voluntary: In addition, many banks secure significantly higher amounts through the Deposit Protection Fund of the Association of German Banks (Einlagensicherungsfonds des BdB) – sometimes several million euros, depending on the institution.
Deposit Insurance in Europe
The EU has established uniform rules:
🔸 Protection up to €100,000 per depositor and bank
🔸 Payout within 7 working days in a worst-case scenario
🔸 In the long term, a common European solution is planned with EDIS (European Deposit Insurance Scheme), which is intended to make the system even more robust.
Deposit Insurance in the USA
In the USA, the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) protects deposits up to $250,000 per depositor and bank. The protection covers savings and checking accounts, as well as certificates of deposit. The system is funded directly by the participating banks – not by taxpayers.
Conclusion – Security with a System
Whether in Germany, the EU, or the USA – your deposits are well protected by established insurance systems. At Festgeldrategeber, we work exclusively with partner banks where deposit insurance is clearly regulated. This allows you to invest with peace of mind – and full confidence.
